The Gwabe Village is located in the Southern part of Ghana near the capital of Accra. It is a small deprived village community with stone quarrying as it's main occupation. Stone quarries have provided a lively hood for the people and have also left them with adverse affects to their health. Eye disease, hearing defects and chest pains are a few of the health problems in this community. Stone quarrying in this area is not mechanical, but manual. Thus the hammer is the main tool used for the job. The people are in need of glasses to assist them solve the numerous eye problems. The people also suffer from chest pains and hearing loss as a result of their work.

The issue was discussed with Angel Net of NEO. It was the desire of GAAS, The Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers be involved in the project. The organization in Americas' task was to collect used prescription eyeglasses and protective eyewear along with hearing aides. The groups in Ghana would find optometrists and audiologist who would rework the items and provide screenings to donate The items to the less fortunate seniors of the Gwabe Village and the younger generation of workers in the stone quarry.
Angel Net of NEO and the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers are pleased to have collected approximately 500 pair of prescription eyeglasses, 100 pair of protective eyeglasses, 100 frames, 100pair of mixed prescription sunglasses, reading glasses and regular sunglasses. They expect to provide them With 40 hearing aides, 50 earplugs and 100 mask.
