Why I Tell

I started telling at church years ago with a presentation of
Sojourner Truth's "Ain't I a Woman."  I was thrilled to learn about the powerful and spiritual woman she was and it became important to me that people should know about her.  I have
always been a reader.  When I found a good book I often wanted to share it and found that friends sometimes wouldn't read the book but they would listen to me tell it.  I love telling to adults and they love hearing a good story.  I feel a personal
responsibility to pass on the history and culture of  the African American experience.  My goal is to celebrate, comfort,
empower and affirm.

"A story
is like the wind...
It comes
from a
far off place
and we
feel it."
