Barbara Eady  |  Why I Tell   |  Tell Me a Story

Barbara Eady's specialty is African and African American folktales and fables, church folklore and the literary works of African American
authors.  Combining chants, poetry and song she effectively involves her
audience in the story by provoking them to visualize the images and often inviting them to participate in the actual telling of the tale.  She has been a workshop presenter for Cleveland Public Schools, Kent State University, John Carroll University and Cuyahoga Community College.  Barbara has presented at schools, youth correctional facilities, universities, festivals, national conferences, libraries, churches, family celebrations, museums, radio and television. She has been a community teller at the National Black Storytelling Festival and was co-director of the 1997 15th Annual National Black Storytelling Festival and Conference which was held in Cleveland.  In May, 2000 she presented the history of the CME Church in storytelling at its General Board Meeting in Memphis, Tennessee.
Barbara holds a BA degree in Social Work from Kent State University, and an MSSA from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at
Case Western Reserve University.  She is presently a Clinical Social Worker in Cleveland, Ohio.
